How to Choose the Right Wig or Topper Securement Accessory

Choosing the right securement accessory can make wearing a wig or topper feel more comfortable, stable, and natural. But securement is not one-size-fits-all. The best option depends on the type of piece you wear, the construction of the base, your biological hair, your scalp comfort, and how you prefer to wear your hair.

At Milano, securement accessories are designed to support different wearing needs. Some are made for full wigs, some are made for lace top wigs, and others are designed specifically for toppers. The goal is not to choose the “strongest” option automatically — it is to choose the option that works best with your piece and your comfort needs.

Start with the piece you wear

Before choosing a securement accessory, identify whether you wear a full wig, lace top wig, topper, lace topper, BandFall, or HatFall. The construction of the piece should guide the securement choice first.

WiGrip: Support for Full Wigs, BandFalls & Some HatFalls

A WiGrip is designed to add secure, comfortable support under full wigs, BandFalls, and some HatFalls that do not already have WiGrip built into the design. It can be helpful for clients who want added grip without relying on clips, combs, tape, or glue.

One important note: Milano HatFalls are designed with WiGrip support built in. That means a separate WiGrip is not usually needed for Milano HatFalls. If you are wearing a non-Milano HatFall or another hatfall style, your securement needs may vary.

Lace WiGrip: Support for Lace Top Wigs

Lace WiGrip is designed for lace top wigs when lace compatibility matters. Lace areas often need a different type of support than standard wig bases, so choosing a lace-compatible option can help the wig sit more naturally while still adding securement support.

If you wear a lace top wig and are unsure whether you need a standard WiGrip or a Lace WiGrip, it is best to ask before purchasing so the accessory matches your wig construction.

GripCap: A Soft Barrier Under Full Wigs

A GripCap is designed for clients who prefer a soft barrier between the scalp or biological hair and the wig cap. This can be helpful for full scalp coverage, long biological hair, scalp sensitivity, or clients going through chemotherapy.

Some clients also like using a GripCap because it helps contain biological hair underneath the wig and creates a soft layer between the scalp and the cap.

Lace GripCap: A Soft Barrier for Lace Top Wigs

Lace GripCap is designed for lace top wigs when a client wants the soft barrier of a GripCap with lace-compatible support. This may be a better option for lace top wig wearers who prefer more scalp coverage, comfort, or separation between the scalp and the wig cap.

TopGrip: Securement Support for Toppers

TopGrips are designed for toppers. Because toppers blend with biological hair, securement depends on the topper’s base size, construction, clip placement, biological hair, and comfort needs.

TopGrip sizing is based on the topper’s base size and construction, not the client’s head size. The measurements below are general guidance only. In some cases, topper clips may need to be moved or adjusted for the topper to sit properly in a TopGrip.

Lace TopGrip

Best for lace toppers that are approximately 9" wide or larger.

Small TopGrip

Best for smaller toppers that are approximately 5" wide or smaller.

Medium TopGrip

Best for medium toppers that are approximately 7"–8" wide.

Large TopGrip

Best for larger silk top toppers that are approximately 9" wide or larger.

Clips, Combs & Built-In Security

Many wigs and toppers already include built-in securement features such as clips, combs, adjustable straps, or grip support. If something feels uncomfortable or not secure enough, the best next step may be an adjustment rather than adding the wrong accessory.

Snap clips are commonly used in toppers and some wig designs to help attach the piece to biological hair. If clips feel uncomfortable, pull too tightly, or do not sit in the right place, our team can review whether clip placement or replacement may help.

Combs may be used in some wigs to add stability, but comfort can vary depending on biological hair, scalp sensitivity, and how the wig is worn. Combs are not the right choice for every client.

Choose Based on Comfort, Hair Loss & Daily Wear

Once you know which securement accessories are designed for your piece, the next step is comfort. A soft barrier may be helpful if you have little to no biological hair, scalp sensitivity, long biological hair to contain, or if you prefer full scalp coverage.

Additional security support may be helpful if your wig or topper shifts during wear, if clips feel uncomfortable, or if you want added grip without relying only on clips, combs, tape, or glue.

The right option is personal

The right securement accessory is not always the strongest option. It is the option that works best with your wig or topper, your scalp or biological hair, and the way you wear your piece.

What About Tape, Glue, or Adhesive Securement?

Milano does not currently sell tapes or glues. If you are considering adhesive securement, we recommend working with a professional who can help determine whether adhesive is appropriate for your piece, skin, scalp, hair loss, and wearing routine.

Not every wig or topper is meant to be secured with adhesive. Before using tape, glue, or bonding products, contact Milano or a qualified professional so you can avoid unnecessary damage to the piece, irritation to the skin, or a securement method that does not match your needs.
